How We Work Together
My Approach
Healing isn't about finding the "right" therapy technique.
It's about understanding your story, making sense of your experiences, and creating lasting change in a way that truly respects and values who you are.
No two people arrive in therapy for the same reasons, and no single approach works for everyone. My work is collaborative, trauma-informed, and personalized to your goals, strengths, values, and lived experience. Together, we'll move at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable.
I often think of therapy as unfolding in these three overlapping phases: Understanding, Processing, and Integration, which guide your growth.

Understanding
Before we can create change, it helps to understand what has brought you here.
Many of the ways we survive difficult experiences make perfect sense when we see them in context.
Perhaps you've learned to stay hypervigilant because the world once felt unpredictable.
Perhaps you've become a people-pleaser because keeping others happy once helped you feel safe.
Perhaps your inner critic developed as a way of protecting you from rejection or disappointment.
Together, we'll explore your experiences with curiosity rather than judgment, helping you understand what to expect from the process and how it can support your growth. We'll begin to understand the patterns, beliefs, relationships, and nervous system responses that have shaped how you move through the world today.
This stage isn't about asking, "What's wrong with you?"
It's about asking, 'What happened?' and 'How did you learn to survive?' to foster compassion and understanding for your journey.

Processing
Understanding is important, but insight alone doesn't always create change.
Sometimes our minds know we're safe, but our bodies continue to respond as though danger is still present.
As therapy progresses, we may gently process experiences that continue to feel emotionally or physically 'stuck'. The goal isn't to relive painful moments, but to help your nervous system experience them differently so they no longer hold the same weight.
Depending on your needs, this may include mindful awareness, body-based practices, creative expression, nature-based walk-and-talk therapy, or other experiential approaches that support emotional processing alongside conversation.
We'll always work together, respecting your readiness and never forcing the process. This collaboration aims to make you feel supported and in control of your healing journey.

Integration
Healing is a journey that goes beyond just understanding the past; it’s about cultivating a life that feels more connected and meaningful in the present.
When we talk about integration, we’re referring to the beautiful alignment of your mind, body, and heart. This harmony can help you navigate daily life in ways that feel more grounded and authentic.
You might start to notice that you trust your instincts more, set healthier boundaries, and choose to respond thoughtfully rather than react out of habit. This newfound awareness can help you feel more in tune with your body and lead you to experiences filled with joy, creativity, and reciprocal relationships that nourish you instead of exhaust you.
Healing often unfolds gently, through small, quiet moments that gradually guide you toward a richer, more fulfilling way of living.
I don't believe people fit neatly into one therapy model, so my work doesn't either.
Instead, I thoughtfully integrate evidence-informed approaches based on your goals, preferences, and the concerns you're bringing to therapy. Evidence-based psychological practice involves combining the best available research with clinical expertise while tailoring care to each person's unique context and preferences.
I'm Informed by:
Trauma-Informed and Relational Psychotherapy Understanding how relationships, life experiences, and the nervous system shape the way we experience ourselves and others.
Attachment Theory Exploring how early relationships influence patterns of connection, safety, trust, and belonging throughout life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Recognizing the relationships between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and lived experiences while developing more flexible ways of responding.
My Work Is Informed By
Internal Family Systems (IFS)-Informed Concepts Working compassionately with different parts of ourselves—such as inner critics, protectors, or wounded parts—to cultivate greater self-understanding and self-leadership. While I am not an IFS-certified therapist, I integrate concepts that align with your goals and my ongoing education.
Mindfulness and Radical Acceptance Developing awareness of thoughts, emotions, and body sensations with greater curiosity and less self-judgment, while learning to respond to difficult experiences with compassion rather than resistance.
Brainspotting-Informed Practice I will have completed Brainspotting Phase 1 training Sept 2026, and continue to develop this work through consultation and ongoing education. When appropriate, Brainspotting-informed techniques may be incorporated into therapy to support emotional processing.
EMDR-Informed Principles I incorporate selected stabilization and resourcing principles informed by EMDR training and literature, such as grounding, containment, and bilateral stimulation when clinically appropriate. I do not currently provide the full eight-phase EMDR protocol.
Nature-Based Therapy When appropriate, we may take therapy outdoors. Walking side by side in nature can create a different rhythm for reflection, helping some people feel more grounded, connected, and at ease.
Creative and Expressive Approaches Sometimes words aren't enough. Drawing, photography, metaphor, journaling, or other creative activities can provide additional ways to explore emotions and experiences. No artistic experience is ever needed.
A Safe Space to Start
"Ultimately, the approach matters less than the relationship we build together. My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel safe enough to be curious, supported enough to grow, and free enough to become more fully yourself."
